A whole body lift is a procedure that aims at improving the shape and tone of the underlying tissue that supports the skin and fat. During this surgery, excess sagging fat and skin are removed as well as improving an irregular skin surface, also known as cellulite. A full body lift can include areas such as the abdominal area, buttocks and the inner and outer thigh as well as the thigh’s circumference.
The procedure is conducted under anaesthesia, as a day surgery procedure. Generally, patients are able to return home following the procedure. The surgeon will make an incision or multiple incisions in places that will minimise noticiable scarring, while providing access to the relevant treatment areas for the patient. The surgeon pulls the skin taut and trims any excess skin. The incisions are closed, the skin is sutured so the skin remains tight.
Following the surgery the recovery may take a minimum of two weeks to resume regular daily duties. The patient will be instructed how to sit and sleep to minimise pain and assist with the recovery. Bruising and swelling is to be expected and will gradually fade over the weeks after the surgery. Pain medication may be required especially within the first forty-eight hours.
The results from a body lift are long lasting.
